Fund Information

  • Ethical Fund

The Fund objective is for long term capital growth by investing in predominantly UK companies that meet our social, environmental and ethical criteria. It invests in companies that make a positive contribution to the community and environment and will not invest in companies that derive over 10% of their turnover from activities such as armaments, gambling, the fur trade, tobacco, and pornography, or companies with a poor environmental record. It will also avoid companies that conduct or commission animal testing for cosmetic and toiletry purposes or make use of child labour.

    Launched – February 2007

Funds under management (as at 03/02/10) – £13 million

    Fund managers

The investment advisor to the Fund is HSBC Global Asset Management (UK) Limited who have sub-delegated the day to day management of the Fund to:

    • Jupiter Asset Management Limited
    • Sinopia Asset Management (UK) Limited – part of the HSBC Group

    Things you need to know

The fund invests in shares. Share prices can go up and down meaning that the value of your investment and any income received from it can fall as well as rise and you may not get back the full amount you invested.

The Fund only invests in companies that meet its ethical standards. This limits the number of companies that the Fund will invest in and therefore may reduce growth.

As part of the Fund may be invested overseas the value of your investment may be affected by changes in currency exchange rates.

As the Fund may invest in bonds, changes in interest rates may affect the value of any bonds held in the Fund. If interest rates go up, the value of bonds may fall. If interest rates go down, the value of bonds may rise.

A small part of the Fund may invest in emerging markets. This may involve greater risk in buying and selling investments, settlement arrangements and the safekeeping of the investments held.

    High Income Fund

The Fund objective is to provide a high level of income and it currently invests in corporate and government bonds which may be both investment grade (low-risk) and sub investment grade (high-risk rated by Standard and Poor's). Bonds are fixed-term loans to a government or company that pay a rate of interest for the duration of the loan. The interest is passed on to you, the investor, in the form of a quarterly payment. You can choose between taking a regular quarterly income or reinvesting any income you earn back into the Fund.

    UK 100 Companies Fund

The Fund objective is to provide long term capital growth by matching the performance of the FTSE® 100 Index as closely as practically possible. It invests in established UK companies such as M&S, BP and Vodafone.

    Launched – May 1995

Funds under management (as at 03/02/10) – £265 million

    Fund managers

The investment adviser to the Fund is HSBC Global Asset Management (UK) Limited. They have subdelegated the day to day management of the Fund to Sinopia Asset Management (UK) Limited, a specialist fund manager within the HSBC Group.

    Things you need to know

The fund invests in shares. Share prices can go up and down meaning that the value of your investment and any income received from it can fall as well as rise and you may not get back the full amount you invested.

Although your investment is spread across the 100 companies that make up the FTSE® 100 Index, some companies and/or sectors can grow so large that they make up a large percentage of the index which increases risk.

The Fund will not track the FTSE® 100 Index exactly. In other words there will be a difference between the performance of the Fund and the FTSE® 100 Index.
