10 per cent of car owners will buy a Christmas car gift

Roadside breakdown experts have urged car owners to consider purchasing car emergency kits as a new survey released by an independent auction house has shown that 10 per cent of car owners will buy their car a present at Christmas time, AutoBulbDirect.com has reported.

The car parts supplier has explained that drivers seem to spend more on new air fresheners, car mats, novelty items and valet services over the Christmas season as driving enthusiasts or proud owners opt to treat themselves and their cars to an early Christmas gift.

"Some drivers are just mad about their cars, and use Christmas as the time to spend a little bit of money on their motor," an auction director told the vehicle accessories retailer.

"It might seem a little odd, but in all seriousness, if it means more people are taking care of their cars, ensuring they're well looked after, it can't be a bad thing."

The AA has urged car owners to gift themselves or their loved ones with car emergency kits instead - comprising warm clothing, extra screen wash, a thermos flask and torch - especially as weather conditions worsen.

The breakdown assistance provider added car emergency kits could prove to be an astute investment as recent heavy snowfall and icy road conditions had led to 23 per cent more car insurance policy holders requesting emergency breakdown assistance.

Poor weather has also caused many motorists to spend hours, if not the night, in snow-bound vehicles.
